What Happens to a Security System During a Power Outage?

Batteries, cellular paths, and what still works when the grid flickers—common in storm season.

Outages do not hit every component equally. Your panel may run on battery while routers die—know which path your alerts use.

Panel and sensors

Most panels switch to rechargeable cells designed for hours, not days. If your keypad chirps or reports low battery, replace on schedule—storm season is the wrong time to discover end-of-life cells.

Internet-dependent cameras vs. cellular alarm paths

Wi‑Fi cameras often drop when power takes out the router. Alarms with cellular communicators can still signal monitoring if antennas are installed correctly and carriers have local coverage.
