MPD year-end summary (posted 01/03/2026): MPD reported 2025 vs 2024 decreases in:

Overall Part I crimes: -27%

Murders: -26%

Aggravated assaults: -22%

Robberies: -31%

Carjackings: -48%

Not bad! There's more...

MPD also stated Memphis recorded 643 shooting incidents in 2025—400 fewer than 2024 (38% decrease)—and “fewer than 200 murders” in 2025 (per MPD’s statement).

For Shelby/TBI-based reporting (2025 vs 2024 rate changes for Shelby County), including:

Overall crime rate: down 15.8%

Major violent crime rate: down 21.1%

Major property crime rate: down 22.6%

Caveat (important): MPD and Crime Commission dashboards can use different geographies, time windows, and category definitions. Treat them as complementary context, not interchangeable “apples-to-apples” numbers.

So what does this mean?

Love or hate the politics behind the Task force in the area, it is reducing crime if you believe the 2024 and current data. Will it be a long-term trend that continues once the Feds leave the area? Lot's of guesses & theories but nobody really knows for sure.
